GREIWE, Consuelo Dickinson, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the age of 82 years old. Connie was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Connie and Guy Dickinson. She spent much of her early education at Cardone, a Catholic day and boarding school, riding the bus home most weekends to be with her family. She was awarded an academic scholarship to the College of Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio River where she met her husband Tom, while working the front desk, greeting him as he came to pick up a blind date. The blind date didn't make it that day allowing him to ask if she would go out with him. They were married at the end of that academic year. A testament to her lifelong love of learning, determination and strength of character; she completed her degree within the next four years while having three children, a fourth on the way and moving three times. The next many years were devoted to fiercely loving, caring and advocating for the needs and lives of their six children as well as, building their future. Later, she obtained her real-estate and commercial real-estate licenses. She had a life- long love for playing tennis and held dual club trophies in both the Women's, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories. When Tom retired, their weekdays were spent playing together as well with friends. Connie deeply loved her Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church. As a dual kidney and breast cancer survivor ,she actively supported The American Cancer Society . She was one of the initial members in Metropolitan Ministries' volunteer support group, "The Lamp Lighters". Connie's life was one of immense accomplishment. In her own estimation, however, her greatest one and the joy of her life was her family; husband Tom of 63 years, and children, Don (Robin), Connie, Robin (Bill), Tom (Kim), Robert "Bam" (Leticia) and Genevieve (Ray), sisters-in-law Barbara Dickinson and Fran (John) Glaser, 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Thomas Hayden, brother Jerry, who died in childhood, older brother Patrick and granddaughter Lauren. Visitation will be Thursday, January 24, 2012 from 4-6:00 p.m. at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Avenue, Tampa with funeral mass on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or the USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute at (800) 633-4563.
