I worked with Henry as his assistant in his Royal Rangers class at Raleigh First Assembly for a few years before we relocated to Georgia. I was always amazed at how he never got flustered in a class full of young boys around five years of age. To me he was like the Energizer Bunny', always going, steady, dependable, involved, a wonderful example of a godly man for the boys and the men in the outpost. He had a wry sense of humor; I remember him often speaking to me as young man, though there were only a couple of years difference in our ages. I will miss seeing him whenever we are able to get back and visit there at RFA. Gail, know that you and your family have been written down in my prayer book and we will be praying for y'all.

If I had to choose one word to describe Henry Black, it would be "humble". To know Henry, is to love Henry.

I have only known Henry for a short time. He was a wonderful man with a sharp sense of humor and dry wit. I so much enjoyed talking to him. My condolences to his loving wife and family.

Mr. Black was such a wonderful neighbor, and treated everyone around him with dignity and respect. I appreciate his quiet humor, his vast intelligence and his devotion to making our little street the friendliest street in Raleigh. My sincerest condolences to the entire family. I am so very sad that we've lost such a great man.

My condolences to the family. I have many memories of Henry, I worked with him for 28 years. He always wanted to give someone something. I think he supplied everyone at work with a flashlight. He supplied cookies and candy for everyone too. He will be greatly missed, but I know Henry was a faithful christian, he is with the lord now.

A joy to be a part of Henry's life and share in mentoring our son in Royal Rangers. His humble character & love for Jesus were always part of his friendly greeting as an usher. Henry's smile was infectious to all who knew him. The love of Jesus was so evident in his demeanor. Great memories to leave with all.

Henry and I were Civil Engineering classmates at NCSU '68. I have good memories of times in class and away from class, doing homework together and enjoying being students. My career with DENR and Henry's with DOT allowed us to meet occasionally over the years. He will be missed.
