Condolence & Memory Journal

John Ahearne was a wonderful mentor, and the smiling pictures are a perfect likeness. John was a physical scientist who knew how to talk with all other types of scientists (including social scientists) and with all types of decision makers and citizens. He always had the same warm demeanor and the same determination to both listen, and to make good sense available to be heard. Thank you John for what you taught me during our collaboration on a National Research Council multidisciplinary inquiry.

I joined Sigma Xi in 1990 under the leadership of Dr. John Ahearne. I have known him since then. I will always remember his smiling face and hearty laugh.

I just want you to know I will be praying you find assurance in God's word, peace in the presence He gives, and comfort in His unwavering love. Sending my heartfelt sympathy.

I remember seeing Dr. Ahearne at the Sigma Xi headquarters. I began working there in 2013, and his office was down the hall from mine. He helped the Society as it moved its headquarters from Connecticut to Research Triangle Park, among other things. He will be missed.
