Condolence & Memory Journal

Out of the total blue I dreamed about Diana last night. Actually I dreamed about Gary (who I never met) & Diana. In the dream I was quite upset about her passing. Isn't it odd that it took me a year and a half to get these feelings out? But I feel it was more than a dream because it is so vivid (most dreams I can barely recall the next morning.) I think she was telling me & now I am sharing with you, that her spirit is still alive.
I only knew Diana as a customer when I managed 2 different boutiques in Austin, so for me to dream about her was, I think, rather unusual. But she was always a delight, always interesting & always interested in what others were doing as well. She was indeed beautiful inside & out & I guess I miss having her soul here on earth.
This is something I wanted to share with family & close friends of Diana because I do believe her soul reaches out to us.

Gary - John and I, and our family are so sorry to hear of Diana's passing - I knew that she was ill but I had no idea how quickly her health was deteriorating. I have known Diana since I was a little girl in Amarillo and she was always a mentor of style and grace for me, and when y'all moved to Austin, we became friends. She fought a long, hard battle with beautiful grace and strong, southern dignity. We will all truly miss her. My family's thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this very difficult time.

Fondly,

Lori and John Babineau

Diana is someone I have known my entire life, and I wanted to express my sincere condolences at her passing. Her mother was my father's secretary for a while when I was very young and we had lots of contact through church, etc.
She was always a beauty and impeccably attired - I believe the last time I saw here was in the late '70s when I visited Childress and attended a football game.
You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Gary, I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Dian's mother, Alice, when I lived in Childress in 1966 and 1967. During this time I got to know Dian and found her to be one of the most caring and wonderful person I've ever known. I lost my wife four years ago, so I can relate to your loss.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Is Alice still living? If so could you let me know, when you find the time, how I could contact her?

God bless you.

Although my relationship with Diana was short, she left a lasting impression on me. Such a kind and gracious woman with a beautiful smile. I will miss that smile that she shared with all that knew her. May her family find comfort to know that she is in a better place, and may the beautiful memories of her be with you always.

What a privilege it was to know Diana. She was the personification of being a lady. Those of us who knew her will feel her absence for a long time. She always lit up a room and was such a wonderful addition to the No Pressure Book Club.
Know that so many have the Compton family in our thoughts and prayers.

Diana was such a beautiful lovely lady that was a special part of our book club. She was generous kind and such a delight to have a conversation with. Her eyes were intent on you as if you were the only one in the room. She will be dearly missed. Our prayers are with you.

Gary, I'm so sorry for your loss. I got to know Dian when I lived and worked in Childress from 1965 through 1967. Although it has been 45 years since I've seen her, I know she was a very caring and wonderful person then and I'm sure that never changed during her life.
I also developed a close friendship with her mother Alice, and don't know if she is still living. If she is, would you let me know so I could contact her.
Again, my sympathy goes out to you and your family along with my prayers.

I cannot even imagine our No Pressure Book Club without Diana. I just looked through the beautiful Memory Book she put together in 2009-2010. She had asked each person in the book club to create a page filled with photos and memories. I will treasure it always. Her page to me included photos of Carmel, Santa Fe, a beautiful photo of her and Gary in their Watersedge Garden Room and some photos of the "over-the-top" Formby Christmas lights--all things we happily shared.
For the end of the 2011 - 2012 Book Club year Diana asked each book club member to answer the question "How has being a member of The No Pressure Book Club changed your life?" I just reread the thoughtful four paragraphs she wrote in answer to that question. Here was her how she ended her page: "I have been blessed with so many wonderful friendships as a result of being a member of the No Pressure Book Club. Thank you, Katrine, for giving me all these opportunities and for inviting me to be a part of this very special group."
I will miss so many things about her: her beauty, her sense of style, her kindness, her generosity, her humor, her love of all things red, her happily-ever-after marriage with a husband she adored and most of all I will miss being in her presence where she always "added to." I am so happy that I told her many times how much I appreciated her friendship--that she always "added to" any gathering. We were all lucky to know her.

Gary- Leslie and I were saddened to hear about Diana's death. We knew she had been ill for a long time, but in typical fashion she never let illness dictate her daily life or interfere with her contributions to the world at large. She was a good person in every sense of the word.

We have many fond memories of our times with the two of you in Amarillo and Austin- full of laughter, events large and small, and anecdotes galore . May the good memories of your life with Diana sustain you in this time of sorrow and release. We will be thinking of you and praying for you.

When it is right, please give us a call or drop us a line.
