Ruth Hunsucker Finley passed away peacefully Wednesday March 15th at Tara Plantation in Carthage. She was born August 21, 1920 in Moore County, she was 96 years old. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Methodist Church in Robbins. She was the daughter of Madison and Emma Hunsucker.
Ruth was an avid gardener, but loved and cultivated daylilies. She was also was a lover of birds. She participated for years as a counter for the Great Backyard Bird Count every February for the National Audubon Society. She trained several wild birds to come and eat from her hand including one cardinal who would light on her window screen wanting attention and to be fed. Her cat Lakisha was her constant companion the last few years.
She was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life Floyd Finley. Ruth had no children of her own but had 28 nieces and nephews who adored her, many of who she helped to raise. She was one of 11 children, 9 who have preceded her. Her brothers Edgar, Melvin ,Roy and Paul Hunsucker all of Robbins and sisters Gertrude Hussey, Marie Dennise, Viola Hunsucker , Margaret Barnes, and Dorothy Baldwin Mason. She has one surviving brother James Hunsucker of Robbins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Tara Plantation for the excellent care particularly to the aides who cared for her daily, and to the field nurses at hospice for their dedication and for their unwavering care.
