James "Ed" Glover, 86 went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2017, after an illness. He was a faithful husband, amazing father, and the world's best "Granddaddy." Most of all, he was a child of God and a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ed was born on September 21, 1930, in Johnston County, to the late Aaron & Zula Glover. He was educated in the public school's of Johnston County, NC and attended Military Administrative School of Colorado. He served in the U.S. Air Force at the end of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Ed was in the Insurance Business representing Nationwide Insurance Companies for over 31 years. He later formed a partnership with Brown/Glover and McKaig a Nationwide Insurance Agency.
Ed also served Christ as a faithful member, Sunday School teacher, Finance Committee member and Deacon of Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, Raleigh.
Ed was a dedicated Mason and Shriner who lived his devotion to helping crippled and burn children. Ed was a member in William G. Hill Lodge #218 Raleigh, NC. As a life member of Raleigh Elks Lodge, he served in various roles. Ed also joined the Shrine at Sudan Temple, New Bern, North Carolina. He served in many offices throughout his years in Shrinedom. He was active in the formation of AMRAN Temple and a charter member serving as its Fourth Potentate.
He enjoyed traveling, especially going to his beach cottage in Morehead City, NC. He lived for opportunities to spend time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and getting to spoil them.
He married his loving wife of 57 years, Cassie (Hinnant) Glover on February 20, 1960, who survives. He is also survived by his two children, Larry of Raleigh, and Carolyn (Dwight) of Rolesville; grandchildren, Kimberly Woodlief, Sandy (Vann) Pair, Landy Massey, Donald (Jaime) Scarboro, Bonnie Kornegay and Paul Scarboro, 6 great-grandchildren.
A Home going Celebration will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at 2:00 PM, Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, 4408 Lead Mine Road, Raleigh, NC, with visitation prior at 1:00 PM. The Rev. J. Charles Allard will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at other times at the home.
The family will be forever grateful for the excellent care, love and support of special caregiver Deborah Pearce, who has been faithful to both Granddaddy (Ed) and Bubba (Cassie).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crabtree Valley Baptist Church, P.O. Box 30954, Raleigh, NC 27612 or The Shrine Crippled and Burn Children's Fund.
