Melba Strother Mitchell, 90, of Raleigh died on April 15, 2017. She was born and raised in Wake County, NC to the late Frank and Lula Strother.
Melba was the proud owner and operator of Melba's Country Kitchen in Cary for 22 years. Before that, she worked as a seamstress and in interior design. She was a very hard worker, and always remained very independent. Melba was an excellent cook, but she also enjoyed going out to eat. She loved to keep busy, and even at the age of 90 was still cooking three meals a week for her family to enjoy. Melba was an avid television watcher, loved taking care of her plants and orchids, but most of all, was a huge dog lover.
Melba is survived by her son, Richard A. Mitchell (Carolyn); daughter, Valerie Wiltshire (Stephen); granddaughter, Brookie Babcock; and brothers, Robert Strother (Lois) and Ben R. Strother (Shirley). She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Mitchell; parents, Frank and Lula Strother; daughter, Valinda Mitchell; sister, Alice M. Wicker; and brother, Howard Strother.
A visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. A service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 1:30pm, in the mausoleum chapel at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington St, Raleigh, NC.
