Phillip was born on August 28, 1950 and passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018.

Phillip was a resident of Sanford, North Carolina at the time of passing.

Phil graduated from Plymouth High School in 1968, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 with a degree in Journalism, and he earned a Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies from Duke University in 1995 which created great tension with his Tar Heel-loving family.

In 1987, Phil transitioned to a second career in education, first teaching writing at the Harnett County Correctional Institution and later at the Wake Juvenile Detention Center in Raleigh until his retirement in 2008. Services will be held at Jonesboro United Methodist Church on Saturday, 1/13 - visitation at 10 am and funeral at 11. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the North Carolina Chapter of the ALS Association at webnc.alsa.org. Visitation at the Wesley Center from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on January 13, 2018.
