William Ashe Bason, J.D.

June 25, 1924 - March 14, 2017

Born in Raleigh, graduated from Needham Broughton and UNC, achieving 2nd in his law school class. He was an Army Air Corps navigator (Captain rank) during WWII. Bill practiced law in Raleigh both as a private attorney and as an assistant district attorney. He owned the Pony Club, where many local adults experienced happy childhood memories. Bill felt passionately about others and gave of his time to many local charities, as well as pro bono legal work.
He was ahead of his time with his interest in alternative energy, which led him to start a neighborhood in Raleigh that utilized solar energy.

Bill loved kayaking, tennis, skiing, and dancing.

Surviving are his wife Ann Penney Bason, son Will Bason, and daughter Searcy Bason, along with a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Hannah Bason, brother George Bason, and son A'court Bason.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 23, at 1:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ruth Sheets Adult Care at 228 W. Edenton Street in Raleigh, or to the Kitchen Fund of the First Presbyterian Church.
