Barbara Eads Maddrey, 76, died Sunday, at her residence after a long fight with cancer. She was born in Crab Orchard, West Virginia on August 2, 1936.
Ms. Maddrey worked for 16 years at Mallinckrodt Chemicals retiring in 2001. She also worked part-time at A.E. Finley YMCA for 17 years. She was an active member of Fairmont United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She was a friend to many and never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Blankenship of Raleigh.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Ann Britt and members of Fairmont United Methodist Church, Dr. Yuri Fesko, Brenda Wilcox, Dori, Nicole and the rest of the staff at Duke Raleigh Cancer Center and also Hospice of Wake County for their excellent care given to Ms. Maddrey.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Fairmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Beth Gaines and rev. Steve Hickle officiating.
