Major (Ret) Brian Nicholas Mason passed away at his Lutz home on January 6. Mr. Mason was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Becoming a US citizen in 1956, he served for 21 years in the United States Army. Following his lifelong appreciation of education, he taught in the Hillsborough County School System for 27 years. At the time of his death, Mr. Mason was an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida. Mr. Mason was an avid golfer and leaves behind many golfing buddies and a 20 handicap. Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Palmer Mason, daughter and son-in-law Jamie Clark Frederick and Robert Eric Frederick, son and daughter-in-law Brian Edmund Mason and Suzanne Williams Woolems, three grandchildren, Claire Olivia Frederick, Nicholas Roman Mason, and Riley Matthew Woolems, brother and sister-in-law Charlie and Jane Palmer of Fayetteville, NC. A visitation will be held January 19th at 2 pm at the Blount & Curry Funeral Home, Carrollwood, with a Memorial Service at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Mason's honor may be made to American Cancer Society Benjamin Mendick Hope Lodge-Tampa (www.cancer.org/hopelodgetampa).
