Mr. Donald Wayne Norris, age 75 of Brookwood Ave., Dunn died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at VA. Medical Center in Fayetteville
Mr. Norris was born May 5, 1937 in Benson, N.C. the son of the late Joseph Aaron Norris & Eva Knowles Norris and is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Evans Norris, a Son-in-Law, David H. Womack, Grandson, David Hunter Womack, Jr., Sister, Judy Norris, Brothers, Stacy & Charles, Stepsons: James Waylon Barefoot and Johnny Dale Barefoot and a Step-Daughter, Deborah Lynn Bain.
Donald retired from the U.S. Army and United States Postal Service and was a member of Stones Creek Advent Christian Church in Benson where he served as a Deacon.
Donald W. Norris enlisted into the United States Army in Johnston County, NC on January 13, 1957 as a Transportation Specialist and would later cross train as an Administration Specialist.
His duty assignments included two combats tours to the Republic of Vietnam, one overseas tour to the Republic of Korea, one overseas tour to Thailand, and one overseas tour to the Federal Republic of Germany. His distinguished career also included numerous assignments to Military installations across the United States.
During his career SFC (RET) Donald W. Norris was awarded the Bronze Star; Army Commendation Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf cluster; Good Conduct Medal, 6th Award; Meritorious Unit Citation; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal: Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars with 1 Silver Service Star and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon with device. His awarded badges included the Expert Badge with Carbine Bar and the Sharpshooter Badge with Auto Rifle Bar and Rifle Bar.
After completing over 20 years of honorable and distinguished service to the United States Army, he retired at the Rank of Sergeant First Class. SFC (RET) Donald W. Norris was separated from service at Ft. Monroe, Virginia and placed on the retirement inactive roll February 29, 1976. His duty reflected great credit upon himself, the United States Army and the United States of America. On behalf of a Greatful nation we are Thankful for his Service and Sacrifice.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Stones Creek Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Larry Withrow and Rev. Doug Abel officiating . Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
