CHAPIN - A worship service celebrating the life of Dr. Henry Ludwig "Rick" Milne, III, 56, will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Main Sanctuary, Columbia. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends 6 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Dr. Milne entered Heaven Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Born in Columbia, he was the son of Freida Byrd Milne and the late Henry Ludwig "Lud" Milne, Jr. Dr. Milne was a graduate of Airport High School and graduated with honors from the University of South Carolina and with honors from the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. He served his medical internship and residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas and was board certified in ophthalmology in 1986. He achieved the rank of Major in the US Army and served as Chief of the EENT Clinic at Fort Jackson. He was Chief of Ophthalmology at Providence Hospital and Medical Director of the Providence Hospital Surgery Center. Dr. Milne was the Medical Director and Partner for The Eye Center, in Columbia. As a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, Rick faithfully served on many committees, as well as, serving as Chairman of Deacons, president of the choir and teaching Sunday School in many areas of the church with his most recent service in the college ministry for ten years.
Dr. Milne devoted his life to serving his Lord and Savior and serving people. On a daily basis, he displayed kindness, faith, wisdom, generosity and love. A devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend and physician, Rick lived out his life verse of I Timothy 6:6, "Godliness with contentment is great gain." In addition to spending quality time with his family, Dr. Milne enjoyed playing golf, windsurfing and studying the Word of God.
Surviving are his wife, Teresa Parsons Milne; his mother, Freida Milne, of West Columbia; son and daughter-in-"love", Stephen and Meg Milne and grandson Henry Milne, all of Tallahassee, Fla.; son and daughter-in-"love", Philip and Mary Ann Milne of Cayce; brothers, Ron Milne (Elizabeth) of Temple, Texas, Brent Milne (Krista) of Boulder, Colo.; sister, Lisa Milne of Houston, Texas; nephews, Caleb and Aaron Milne; nieces, Leanne and Christina Milne.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Palmetto Health Baptist for the care Rick received for the past three months.
