Kinston-Jonah Bob "J.B." Dawson, 82, of Kinston, passed away Friday, February 22, 2013 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. J.B. was born July 31, 1930 in Lenoir County to the late Clinton Adam Dawson and Della Pelletier Dawson. J.B. served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He retired from the NC Department Of Transportation where he worked as a Bridge Inspector and later as a Maintenance Engineer. J.B. was a charter member of the North Lenoir Volunteer Fire Department and attended Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. J.B. enjoyed woodworking and was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker. J.B. had a infectious smile and enjoyed telling a good joke. J.B. set an example for his children and grandchildren that will lead and guide them all their lives.
A service of remembrance will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Truett officiating. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery.
J.B. is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Geraldine Smith Dawson; two sons, Robert Brian "Bob" Dawson and wife, Laura of Kinston and Mark Steven Dawson and wife, Monica of Cary; sister, Grace D. Hardy and husband, Brian of Seven Springs; and three precious grandchildren, Shea Dawson, Jonah Dawson and Jessi Dawson. In addition to his parents, J.B. was preceded in death by a sister, Merle Eason; and a brother, Roger Dawson.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
