CLAYTON: Joseph Thurman “J.T.” Smith, 94, passed away on October 31, 2009. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Smith officiating. Entombment with Masonic Rites will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and merchant and was also a retired Magistrate.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys P. Smith of Smithfield, daughter, Gail S. O’Neil & husband, Billy of Clayton, son, George E. Smith & wife, Janice of Clayton, sister, Mildred Mozingo of Wilson, grandchildren, Tim Smith & wife, Lisa, Bonnie Mayo & husband, Randy, Eric O’Neil & wife, Kim, great grandchildren, Parker, Kendell and Reghan Mayo and Joseph Tristan “J.T.” O’Neil.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 am. at McLaurin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to White Oak Baptist Church Transportation Fund 13943 Buffalo Road, Clayton, NC 27527. When our two daughters were young, at Christmas we would always have a real tree. About three weeks before Christmas my Husband and I would take the girls to Mr. JT'S Christmas Tree Farm. He would always greet us with a smile and help the girls find that perfect tree no matter how long it took. Our girls still talk about those memories at Mr.JT'S finding the perfect tree. Our prayers go out to his family at this time.. Mr.& Mrs.Jerry Dupree...
