LaVerna Riegel age 81 of Moravia, Iowa died Saturday, January 19, 2012 at the Monroe County Hospital.
LaVerna was born June 12, 1931 at Versailles, MO the daughter of Johnny LaVern Rummans and Elsie Kay Belamy Rummans. She graduated from Lawson High School, Lawson, MO at the age of 16 and went on to attend secretarial college in Kansas City. She was united in marriage to Dale Howard Riegel on November 18th, 1948 in Kansas City, Kansas. While they lived in Kansas City she worked for the Kansas City phone company as a telephone operator. After they moved to Iowa in 1951, she worked for Pillsbury in Centerville and later Success Barber and Beauty Supply in Moravia. But, early on she realized her calling was to be a wife, mother and grandmother, so she devoted the rest of her time to her "kids". She had an infectious smile and was a very warm and loving person who loved her children and grandchildren very much. LaVarna was a longtime member of the Carmel Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in Unionville, IA and attended the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene in Moravia

LaVerna is survived by two daughters: Sharon (Dan) McDanel of Moravia and Nancy (Marty) Hatfield of Moravia; one sister: Shirley Brooke of Centerville; grandchildren: Mindy Johnson of Moravia, Michelle (Jason) Hall of Waukee, Monica (Lance) Risher of Centerville, Melanie (Brian) Templeton of Centerville, Brandon (Tracy) Hatfield of Moravia, and Tasha (Brandon) Irving of Moravia; Seventeen great- grandchildren, Devyn Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Mason Johnson, Austin Hall, Zander Hall, Alexa Hall, Kyler Risher, Kailyn Risher, Rhylan Risher, Anessa Risher, Sienna Risher, Quentin Slade Risher, Kaleb Templeton, Ellie Templeton, Adam Crawford, Mackenzee Crawford, and Jaydn Hatfield; also by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, a daughter Karen Riegel, her brother Jim Rumans, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held 11AM Wednesday morning, January 23, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home, Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Terry Chapman officiating. Friends may call all day Tuesday at the Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8PM. Burial will be in the Unionville Cemetery, Unionville, Iowa. A memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home. Condolences may be left at
