HAW RIVER – Leroy Newman June, age 74, of Keck Rd. went home to be with the Lord Sunday November 1, 2009. A native of Valdosta, GA., he was the son of the late Robert Thomas and Flora Odessa McDaniel Holland, and husband of Kay Pickering June, who survives. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Nursing Home Ministries and was also an active member with the Gideon's of Alamance East Camp. In his earlier years, he was the owner/operator of Lowe's Transmission, managed the 70 Twin Drive-In and served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife Kay Pickering June of the home, daughters Robin (Gary) Allred of Graham, Sandra (Don) Hall of Graham, Sherry (Mark) Garner of Haw River, a son Randy June of Haw River and Donald "Goober" Caulberg (Lynn) who was like a son to Leroy and Kay; 10 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; sister Mary Wilson of Valdosta, GA, a half-sister Doris Davis, half-brothers; Roy, Otis, Carl, Sylvester, Felton, Tim Holland and Fred Sadler. He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents Newman White and Estelle Jackson June, a sister Margaret Holmes, a brother Leonard Holmes and a half-brother Herbert Holland. The funeral will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Bethel Baptist Church by Rev. Rick Chandler and Rev. David Neff. Interment will follow in Haw River City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45am Tuesday, at the church, prior to the funeral and at other times at the home. Mr. June will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church for the family visitation and funeral service. Members of Gideon's of Alamance East are asked to act as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or The Gideons International, PO Box 5073, Burlington, NC 27216-5073.
