Lona T. Hill
October 19, 1916 - January 20, 2013
La Grange-Lona Thompson Hill, 96, of La Grange, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013. Lona was born October 19, 1916 in Onslow County to the late Lewis Lloyd Thompson and Alma Mills Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Noah Henry Russell and Clarence Hill. Mrs. Hill worked many years as a caretaker for the elderly. She never had children, but was a mother to many. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. Miss Lona was a member of La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed gospel music and loved good preaching.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at noon from Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, La Grange.
Mrs. Hill is survived by two brothers, Donald Thompson and wife, Susie of Kinston and Herbert Thompson and wife, Velma of Jacksonville; two special nieces, Larue Hubacker and Frances Padrick and husband Elwood; along with many other special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by three sisters, Tessie Gray Rouse, Maude Hines and Faye Herring; and four brothers, Thomas Lee Thompson, James "Speed" Thompson, Gerald Thompson and Lloyd Cecil Thompson.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11-12 at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
