Max Bird Schelbert, 74, passed away at 8:35 AM Thursday, February 7, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Born November 11, 1938 in Francisville, IN, he is the son of the late Philipp Schelbert and Ethel (Bird) Schelbert. On January 28, 1967, he married Carol Sue (Carlson), and she survives. He was a veteran serving in the Army National Guard. He was a tool maker with Chrysler for 47 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Peru and U.A.W. Local #685. He was a Godly man; very kind and generous. His family was always very important to him.
He was a wonderful husband of 46 years to his wife Carol Sue Schelbert; loving and supportive father to his son Mark Adam (Liz) Schelbert; and daughter Laura (David) Pettifor; and loving grandfather to his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Trelaine, and Declan Schelbert. He is also survived by one brother Douglas (Susie) Schelbert; one sister Anna (Virgil) Hurlock; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Philipp Conrad Schelbert.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main Street, Kokomo. Richard Carlson will officiate. Burial with military rites by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military Rites Team will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the mortuary.
