Mr. Oscar Palmer Sims, age 91, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away February 17, 2013. Mr. Sims was born in Locust Grove, GA, the son of the late Oscar Wesley and Mary Lee Patrick Sims. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Savage; siblings, Charlie Sims, Thomas Sims, Lucy Allen, Dorothy Nix, Elizabeth Sims and Annie Louise Sims. He served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was the oldest member of County Line Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 59 years. He was a former city councilman for the City of Locust Grove. Mr. Sims attended Anderson Aircraft School in Nashville, TN and went to work in San Diego, CA for Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Factory building B-24 Liberator planes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Sims worked for US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier and retired with 16 years of service. He enjoyed farming and driving his tractor, gardening, owned and operated a saw mill, and was an avid Braves fan. Survivors are his wife of 59 years, Ida Lou Sims of Locust Grove; children, Pamela Savage of Locust Grove, Billy and Leanna Sims of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Chad and Mindy Sims of Locust Grove, and Travis Sims of Locust Grove; great-grandson, Connor Sims; siblings, Lois Babb and Randolph Sims; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service for Palmer Sims will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 – 11:00 AM at County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
