Ronald E. Redig, age 75, of Chilton, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Chilton Care Center. He was born in Fond du Lac on December 10, 1937 son of the late George and Leona (Koch) Redig. He attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Chilton High School. Upon graduation Ronald also heard the call of his country and served in the United States Army Reserves. On December 16, 1958 he married Catherine M. Lucas at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Appleton. The couple made their home and farmed in the Town of Rantoul for 38 years before retiring to Chilton and spending several winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was a faithful and life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul, where he served on the Board of Directors, Chairman, Elder, Trustee, and school board. Ron served on the Board of Directors for the Chilton Cooperative, the Reedsville Cooperative, Equity Livestock of Reedsville, and the Chilton City Council. In his retirement he also worked for the Chilton Coop and the Farm Service Agency/Land Water & Conservation of Calumet County. Ron was a kind and gentle man who valued his family. He enjoyed having fun and making people laugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathy of Chilton, three daughters Debra (Ken) Schneider of Chilton, Dawn (Dewey) Schmidt of Appleton, Amy (Jim) Eiden of Green Bay, eight grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Schneider of Plymouth, Jennifer (Nicholas) Bolz of Appleton, Jamie (Daniel) Wieting of Chilton, Benjamin (Ann) Schmidt of Appleton, Brandon (Brooke) Schmidt of Appleton, Zachary Schmidt and fiancé Crystal of Appleton, Hunter and Grant Eiden of Green Bay, fourteen great grandchildren Samuel and Elise Schneider, Ella, Noah, and William Bolz, Alydia, Eliot, Iyla, and Oriya Wieting, Trae, Olivia, and Ariana Schmidt, and Drew and Evan Schmidt. Three brothers-in-law Charles Graf, Arvie Boettcher, and Willard Wolfmeyer, three sisters-in-law Florence (Bernard) VandenHogen, Francis Gay and friend Charlie, and Irene (Monty) Stock, and a brother-in-law Thomas Lucas. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by four sisters Vera Graf, Myra Boettcher, Naomi Wolfmeyer, and Audrey Gable, and a brother and sister-in-law Eugene (Janice) Redig. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rantoul with the Rev. Timothy Benninghoff officiating. Burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday at the Wieting Family Funeral Home in Chilton (411 W. Main St.) from 4 to 8 PM and again on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 AM until 11:15 AM. Wieting Family Funeral Home of Chilton & Kiel and Schneider Funeral Home & Life Tributes of Plymouth have been entrusted with making the arrangement for their beloved grandfather. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gene Tipler, the staff of the Chilton Care Center, and Calumet County Hospice for the special care and concern shown to Ron and his family.
