William W. "Bill" Campbell of Langhorne passed away Sunday January 27, 2013. He was 88. Bill was born in Shelocta, near Indiana, PA on November 17, 1924. He was a resident of Bucks County for nearly 70 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. After the war ended, he continued to serve his country as a guard at the Nuremberg trials. After returning from the war and settling in Bucks County, he married his beloved wife Edith, with whom he shared more than 48 years of marriage before her passing in 1996. In 1998, he married Maxine Kaseman, and they enjoyed their time together until her passing in 2011.
For seventeen years, Bill managed Stone Meadows dairy farm on Route 413 near Newtown, on behalf of its owner, Ezra Stone (who played Henry Aldrich on the radio). After the dairy herd was sold he left the farm and worked for I.G. Sales in Silverdale, PA for over 20 years. He specialized in John Deere equipment and retired in 1989 as a Vice President.
Bill was very active with Middletown Grange #684, serving as Master several times. He held several other leadership positions with both Middletown Grange and the Pomona Grange. He was Treasurer of the Middletown Grange Fair for many years. He was also a member of Newtown Presbyterian Church. He was an avid and highly capable card player, with Pinochle being his game of choice. He enjoyed traveling, and managed to visit all 50 states as well as several other countries.
He is survived by his sister Helen Tomb of Johnstown, PA; his children, Margie Stoup and her husband Ken, Susan Noran and her husband Jim, Diane Payne and her husband Steve, Bill and his partner Irwin Terry; his grandchildren, Rebecca Noran and her husband Jon Dehning, Rachel Minor and her husband Zak, Jason Noran, Will Payne and his wife Kelly, Campbell Payne; his great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Henry, and Caroline Minor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his life celebration from 9:30 to 11:00 AM Saturday, February 2 in Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, 323 East Washington Avenue, Newtown, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery in Bensalem.
